Spanish Civil War Battles is a two-player simulation of Spanish Civil War Battles, with Jarama and Brunete being covered in this issue (Guadalajara 1937 & Panarroya being covered in S&T #219). Game scale is one mile per hex and one day per turn. Units represent various echelons. The Battle of Jarama was the result of General Francisco Franco's attempt to capture Madrid, capital of Republican Spain. Facing a bloody stalement in front of the city, Franco launched his Nationalist armies in a two-pronged offensive to encircle the city from the north and south. The southern arm of the thrust across the River Jarama to cut off the vitial Valencia road began on February 6th 1937. After months of stalemate before Madrid, the Brunete offensive beginning on July 6th 1937 was the Republicans attempt to go on the attack. It was intended to relieve the captial. The Republicans meant it as a show of strength with the best armor, aircraft and material allocated. The result was not what they intended. Game designer: Perry Moore.
